A few weeks back, the football world was rightly full of praise for both Helena Costa, the first female manager appointed to a club at such a high level, and Clermont Foot for hiring her as manager.

However, it seems that the Portuguese has decided not to take up the job, and will not be in charge of the Ligue 2 club this coming season.

In an official statement, Claude Michy, president of the club, said that Costa's decision was "sudden and surprising" and that he deeply regrets that this situation has occurred.

No reason has been given for Costa opting not to take up the job, but Michy wished to thank everyone who sent their best wishes and support to both Costa and the club after the appointment was announced.
