While the sun might have peeked through the clouds a little this morning in some places, you should prepare for the worst later today.

Met Éireann have issued a severe weather warning with the likelihood of heavy downpours of rain, which may cause localised flooding in certain areas. The warning was issued for Munster, Leinster and Connacht, while Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan will also be affected.

They have said that the weather should ease off this evening, but in the meantime expect thunderstorms and even hail in places. Harm Luijkx of Met Éireann told Newstalk that the ingredients are all there for the weather to get worse, with showers already appearing in the south and likely to get more intense as the day goes on.

The orange alert will remain in place until around 9pm, but the showers will be prolonged and widespread. Hail in June, sure where else would you get it?
