Mesut Özil was busy winning the World Cup this past weekend, and although he was having a celebration with the rest of his team-mates back home in Germany, he still found time to donate his bonus to some sick children.

Before the World Cup, Mesut Özil was hard at work training to ensure that he could help his national team win the tournament, but he also donated enough money to pay for the surgery of 11 sick children as part of the Big Shoe campaign, hence the giant boot pictured above. That's fairly sound of him.

Since wining the biggest prize in football, Özil snagged a fairly nice bonus of around €300,000, but instead of buying a new sports car or some flashy jewellery, he decided to donate the whole lot to the same charity which would finance life-saving operations for a further 23 kids in Brazil. That's also incredibly sound.

There had been rumours circulating that he'd donated the money to Gaza, which is also a worthy cause, but to clear up any confusion and set the record straight he let everyone know where he'd sent his bonus via a post on Facebook, with a video explaining why he'd gotten involved in the charity too. Turns out a lot of these footballing types are a decent aul bunch.
