Clothing for keeping fit and working out has seemingly ad an explosion in recent weeks, thanks in part to the fact that it's January and we're all making resolutions, and that we seem to be more keen to look after ourselves in general.

The ongoing trend of sports luxe has a role to play in that too, but from Dunnes and Penneys to the usual suspects such as Nike and Under Armour, there's no shortage of gear that you can fill your gym bag with this year.

The Man Cave has been busy working away on finding a load of workout gear from those mentioned above, to a whole range of others, that come in a range of shapes and styles that should suit every budget, whether you want to stick to the basics or get all the bells and whistles for top dollar.

Both Dunnes and Penneys have decided to get in at the cheaper end of the market for sportswear that offers a decent range of colours, without breaking the bank. When it comes to functionality, they'll definitely do the job, and you can even pick up some Admiral-branded apparel in certain branches of Penneys that rival the more established brands for design and colours.

Similarly, H&M aren't charging over the top prices for their range, which offers a bit more of a choice when it comes to style and fit, as well as a few more interesting shades for the gym goer who's hoping to get something other than black or hi-vis. Boohoo have also gotten in on the act with their own range that you can find on their website, which is also friendly on the pocket.

Life Style Sports have also brought in a range of gear called Pulse that is a combination of the tech and all the extras that you expect from higher end brands, without the price tag. They also stock all the adidas, Under Armour and Nike gear that you could hope for, much of which is featured in the gallery below. The fit is quite slim on the range, with t-shirts clinging tightly at the arms (to show off the guns of course) and cut quite short, but they do feature mesh for breathability and the running range has a loop at the collar for your headphones, so you are getting value for your money in that respect.

When it comes to the traditional brands, Under Armour is only growing bigger in Ireland at the minute, mainly thanks to the price that they generally come in at in comparison to some of the other sports brands. They're slightly cheaper than Adidas and a decent wedge cheaper than Nike, who tend to be top of the table when it comes to pricing. Under Armour's range of Cold Gear is ideal if you intend on getting your exercise outdoors during the winter months, while they also are a little bit more adventurous when it comes to styles. In particular, their Storm Gear is also ideal for our rather unpleasant winters, as it will keep you dry (trust us, it genuinely does work better than you'd expect) and warm. The full range in the gallery below (except for the Elevate training shoes) is available from Life Style.

Nike do tend to be the most expensive of the brands, but they also do invest a lot in researching and producing the most innovative stuff. For the dedicated runner, Nike's range of apparel will be a must, as it blends breathability and durability with warmth for the cold weather, while Adidas have also produced a nice, smart minimalist range in conjunction with Porsche for the style conscious gym goer.

Overall, there's absolutely no shortage of options whether you want functionality or style, or what sort of budget you have to spare to get gear to stick to your New Year's resolutions.  Check out the gallery below for the full range across all brands, as well as prices.
