As we all know, there are three things you need to consider when buying your next mansion: location, location and possible paranormal activity as a result of the place being haunted by the ghost of a dead Egyptian pharaoh.

Sure, you might not take that last one all too seriously, but then you could end up like former Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Everton footballer Samuel Eto'o. Learn from his mistakes, take on the knowledge he can now pass down to you.

Eto'o recently moved to Sampdoria, in Italy's Serie A, and was looking for a property in the area that would suit his luxurious footballer lifestyle in Portofino, near Genoa, and he chose Villa Altachiara, the property that once belonged to Lord Carnarvon. He was the financial backer for Howard Carter, the man who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun, and shortly afterwards it transpired that Carnarvon was killed to death by a mosquito, which was the boy king getting his revenge from the other world.

It doesn't end there however, as Carnarvon's young nephew also died, and a Gucci model disappeared from the property too, all events that took place many decades apart but were still linked to the ancient Egyptian curse somehow.

It was believed at the time that Carter and his team were excavating the ruins that opening the chamber of a pharaoh would unleash a curse on whoever it was that had disturbed the resting place of the ruler (we've all seen The Mummy, probably), and it now seems that the curse will be passed down to whoever owns the house. If you don't mind us saying, the rules on this seem fuzzy, at best.

Anyway, the locals warned him about the impending doom and such, but he's not too pushed because the house is pretty nice. But sure isn't that how all the greatest haunted house movies start...
