SUMMERS WITHOUT FACEBOOK: THE OFFICIAL RULES OF... TIP THE CAN

This game had an inherent disadvantage for bigger people. The more szvelt you were, the better chance you had of winning. Tip The Can was a game of chess, a game of strategy. You had to outsmart your opponent and work out where the searcher would look. And if you were the searcher? Well, you basically had to be Sherlock. Use clues, deduce their patterns from previous games. It was intense, man. Intense.

RULE ONE – SELECTING THE SEARCHER

This can be done one of three ways. The participants either draw straws, use Eeny-Meeny-Miny-Mo or a person can specifically request to be the searcher.

RULE TWO – THE PLAYERS

There is no set amount of players. Technically, the entire road / estate can play but that'll mean for a more difficult game for the searcher. And they might decide to not play. Best to split it into two games.

RULE THREE – THE “CAN” ITSELF

This does not have to be a can. It can be a jumper, a ball, a shoe, a schoolbag, your Barbie / Biker Mice From Mars Lunchbox – anything.

RULE FOUR – HIDING PLACES

Hiding places must be within the designated area, i.e. the green or the cul-de-sac. You cannot hide in your house, your lawn or under a car.

RULE FIVE – SIGHTING / TIPPING

If the “searcher” sees you, the “searcher” must return to the can as soon as possible. The player must reach the can before the “searcher”. If the “searcher” reaches the can before the player, the player is now in Jail. The Jail is next to the can. The searcher does not need to touch the player, rather they simply have to call out where they saw them when they reach the can, followed by the phrase 'Tip The Can'.

RULE SIX – RELEASE FROM JAIL

If another player reaches the Can and a player is in Jail, that player is released. This can be done as many times as possible.

RULE SEVEN – TREES / BUSHES

There is no set rule for hiding in bushes. If the bush falls within the designated area, it is a valid hiding place. Please note that trees are tall and you will be easily seen. And remember, the rules clearly state that you don't have to be tipped by the “searcher”. They just have to see you. Yes really. Because it says so right here. Fine. Go home. See if I care.
