For us, sending out invites to the likes of Mafia Wars, Farmville, Candy Crush or any of those deeply annoying Facebook games is grounds for unfriending.
We operate a strict zero-tolerance policy on the subject and have no problems enforcing it. We've unfriended aunts, family friends, anyone who does it. Why? Because that shit is unbelievably annoying.
At long last, Facebook is finally doing something about this flaw in the system. Mark Zuckerberg announced earlier today during a live Q&A that Facebook is beginning to phase out invites for games you don't play. "We hadn’t prioritised shutting it down as we had other priorities, but if this is the top thing people care about, we’ll prioritise that."
Yes, Mark, we care very deeply about this because you get all excited about getting a notification, only to find out it's your Aunt Joanne sending you ANOTHER invite to play CandyCrush Saga or something. P*ss off, Auntie Joanne - we're not playing it and we haven't talked to you in six years.
There's more. Facebook is also doing away with the Other Messages folder, which is where all your Spam messages and chats from people you're not friends with go - which is kinda nice.
Although, in fairness, we liked the idea of being able to say, "Oh, you sent me a message? I didn't get it, it must have gone into the Others folder or something."
Not that anyone believed it, but who cares.
