Earlier this morning, you might have had a bit of trouble logging in to your Facebook and Instagram, and it turns out you weren't alone.

The social media giant have been busy claiming all morning that they weren't hacked, as a lot of users reported problems logging on to both Facebook and Instagram, as well as chat service hipchat and hookup app Tinder.

According to a group of hackers who go by the name "lizard squad", it was their handiwork, as they tweeted out the following message about the service outage:

Lizard squad have previously claimed responsibility for the outage of the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live network that happened around Christmas, and their involvement here has also been put in doubt as Facebook claim the problem was not because of a hack by anyone.  They told The Verge that it was "not the result of a third party attack but instead occurred after we introduced a change that affected our configuration systems", and that everything was now back to normal for all users.
