Ethan Hawke says he had 'no business' marrying Uma Thurman.

The 'Before Midnight' star now thinks he was too young to walk down the aisle with the 'Kill Bill' actress 15 years ago but at the time he thought getting wed would give his life some stability, telling ELLE magazine: 'Success when you're young is really overwhelming. The world felt out of control. And I wanted to stop it from spinning so fast. I thought marriage would decrease my variables or something. I was absolutely wrong.'

Ethan was 27 when he tied the knot to Uma - with whom he shares daughter Maya, 14, and son Levon, 10 - but claims he was too immature mentally and emotionally to make the long-term commitment.

The 42-year-old actor noted: 'There was this discovery that the male brain isn't done until 28. I definitely think my frontal lobe was not finished. I had no business taking vows that would last more than two weeks.'

Ethan divorced Uma in 2005 after five years of marriage before getting remarried to his wife Ryan Hawke three years later. The couple have two young daughters, Clementine and Indiana.
