Elliot Page and Emma Portner have released a statement saying they are getting a divorce.

They had been married for three years and said they "remain close friends."

The statement reads: "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer.

"We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends."

According to TMZ, Elliot recently filed the legal documents seeking the dissolution of his marriage to Emma at the Manhattan Supreme Court.

They had tied the knot back in January 2018.

Emma is a dancer and choreographer. She teaches at the Broadway Dance Centre in New York, and featured in Justin Bieber's 'PURPOSE: The Movement' among other music videos and tour performances.

Elliot is best known for his roles in 'Juno', for which he received an Oscar nomination, and Netflix series 'The Umbrella Academy'.

He came out as transgender in a touching statement last December.

Portner, Ellen DeGeneres, Kumail Nanjiani, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Anna Kendrick, James Gunn and more publicly expressed their support for him.
