He is deathly pale. His fingernails are cut to sharp points. His teeth protrude menacingly from his mouth in a cloud of rancid breath.

But before we start thinking of Santa Claus, we have to get through Halloween first, and what better way to do that than by going to see the newest petrifying play, Jonathan Harker and Dracula, which is running in The Helix this weekend.

Now, with the customary seasonal jokes aside, the Ulster Theatre Company’s new adaptation of the infamous Bram Stoker novel will see Irish actor Gerard McCarthy play both the blood sucking count, and Jonathan Harker, the man whose diaries chronicle the bloody tale.

McCarthy, best known for his roles in The Fall, Vikings, and A Nightingale Falling, will be joined on stage by multiple cameras, backing screens, projections, surround sound and a newly commissioned score that’s sure to make the audience scream. But don’t take our word for it, have a look at the trailer.

No, we didn’t know plays came with trailers now either, don’t feel ashamed.

While McCarthy puts on a tour de force solo performance, he’ll be aided by Street’s Kym Marsh, Lauren Wisener from Sweeney Todd and The Inbetweeners, and Rachel Tucker from the Friday Show, who’ll all turn up on screen throughout the show.

With tickets nearly sold out already, it’s time to start booking, but if you’re still undecided(it’s fine, we were scared at first too), check out the play’s website for more details.

Tickets are available for just €20, €16 for concessions, and can be bought here, or by calling 01 700 7000.
