Activision have announced that their latest title, Destiny, has become the fastest selling franchise in the history of video games, which ain't bad going.

With over $500 million sold on day one, Destiny went on sale at over 11,000 midnight openings around the world across 178 countries as fans went all in to get their hands on the game, making it the most successful franchise launch ever.

The previous record of the biggest launch was set by Watch Dogs just a few short months ago, and it seems that all signs are pointing towards the fact that the video games industry is absolutely booming.

According to IGN, the title became the UK's fastest selling franchise ever also and official figures confirm that 46% of sales were on PS4, 36% on Xbox One, 14% Xbox 360 and the last few per cent were on PS3, meaning that a lot of people have also made the switch to next-gen gaming.

While the game was very expensive to make, Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard said that all the investment and work was worth it: "this industry milestone marks another blockbuster success for our company and demonstrates our unique ability to create some of the most successful entertainment franchises in the world.".

The game is also on its way to becoming a billion dollar franchise, so there's no surprise that it has already seen a little bit of a crossover with the summer's biggest movie too.
