Davina McCall has spoken candidly about a drug overdose she had in her early 20s that saw her rushed to hospital.

According to The Sun, McCall was speaking at an International Women's Day event when she described how her drug addiction took her to her "darkest, darkest place,"

"I hated myself so much. I was so full of self-loathing. I was telling myself constantly that I wasn’t worth anything." she said.

She went on to describe the drug overdose she had in her mid 20s that ended with her waking up in a hospital bed.

"It was very frightening as it was a very gradual overdose. I’d had a cocktail of drugs because I didn’t want to feel normal.'"she said

"I was constantly trying to escape myself — I was like a piece of fruit rotting from the inside."

‘So then I thought, “Well, I’ll just take a valium”, and the next thing I knew I woke up in hospital."

McCall said that it was her parents and best friend that helped her turn things around. She went to Narcotics Anonymous following her overdose and says that she's been clean ever since. She still continues to attend meetings and therapy sessions to keep her on the right track.

"And because I got clean I got the job I’d dreamed of and that changed my life forever."

McCall became a household name in the early 2000s and the presenter of Big Brother, a role she filled until 2010. She's since fronted a whole host of programmes on including Million Pound Drop, The Jump, and most recently, The Masked Singer.
