He's not exactly been 'sacked', more relieved of his duties "with immediate effect" less than a year at the helm. Don't feel too bad for him, he gets a reported £10million as a leaving present. Not too shoddy.

No doubt the news (and the reported money) will come as a huge relief to Moyes who's had to endure an unprecedented amount of stress since taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson as manager of the club. This may largely be due the fact that Sir Alex continued to attend every game played - a comparison I've had to listen my fella say is akin to Gay Byrne sitting in the audience of The Late Late for every show since Tubs took over (I would've said "Pat Kenny sitting in the audience", but you know yerself.)

While Manchester United fans are obviously rejoicing this morning, every single other fan will be less than enthused...

According to The Daily Mail: "It emerged on Monday that United's owners, the Glazer family, had lost patience with Moyes after a dismal season that has seen the reigning Barclays Premier League champions slump to seventh in the table. The final straw was Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Everton, their 11th in the Barclays Premier League this season, and a result that left the title holders 13 points off the Champions League places."

We will of course have more on this story once some of the ardent footie enthusiasts land into the office. In the interim, let the scrambling at Carrington commence.
