He has acted in some outlandish storylines over the course of his lengthy career, but David Jason's real-life story might be the most unbelievable yet.

The 'Only Fools and Horses' and 'A Touch of Frost' actor recently discovered that he has a long-lost daughter, who is now 52.

Abi Harris was born in 1970, following a brief relationship her mother, Welsh actress Jennifer Hill. Jason was not aware of her existence until last year and is now getting to know her, and his 10-year-old grandson Charlie.

Jason also has a 22-year-old daughter called Sophie, whom he shares with wife of 17 years, Gill Hinchcliffe.

The 83-year-old actor - who was 31 at the time of Abi's birth - told The Mirror: "To say it was a surprise to find out I had a daughter from years ago is an understatement.

"However, on settling with the news, I am delighted that I am now able to get to know Abi and so we meet up when we can. My wife, Gill, and daughter, Sophie, have been very supportive and understanding and have embraced Abi and welcomed her and her young son into her now wider family."

It is believed that Abi - who is also an actress and grew up thinking another man was her father until he died in 1996 - began to suspect that Jason may be her biological father when she crossed paths with him many times in the acting world and at events, and realised they shared similar physical characteristics.

She wrote him a letter asking him to take a paternity test, and the results were conclusive.
