While we like to complain a lot about the weather, the water charges, and the quality of the cup of tea that our colleague makes in the office, it seems that we're overall a pretty happy bunch.
A survey on wellbeing from he Central Statistics Office shows that just over three-quarters of the Irish population are pretty happy with their lot, ranking their overall satisfaction with their life as "high" or "very high".
hose aged between 16 and 19, and aged 60-plus, reported the highest overall ratings of happiness, while four out of every five adults also responded positively when asked if they believed that the things they do every day are worthwhile.
The Irish Times broke the data down by region, and it showed that the midlands was the area where the highest percentage of people (7%) were likely to be unsatisfied with their lives. When it came to anxiety levels, almost 15% of the population stated that they felt anxiety the previous day, while more than a quarter of all females rated their anxiety as "medium" or "high".
In general, the majority of those figures point to us being very cheery altogether, but it seems that our ratings are not all that different to those in the UK. While the Republic and the North were top of the list when ti came to being satisfied with out lives, we also had the highest percentage of people who responded that they had felt low or anxious in the previous day.
