This is why you don't give the college's star mathlete a parking fine...

Stephen Coyle was hit with a parking ticket for $110 (€100) at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte recently, and he wasn't too thrilled about it. However, instead of protesting, he decided that he'd look into where all the money for the fines goes.

After a bit of investigation, the 26-year-old vice president of the university's maths club discovered that 80% of the money from the fines actually goes to other schools, so he decided that he would pay the fine in pennies. He spent the next few days collecting the necessary 11,000 coppers, which he then put into $25 boxes of pennies and sent them in to cover the fine.

Coyle wrote a letter to USA Today explaining his position and why he did it, adding that the students are "supplementing the funding of public schools when this is actually the responsibility of taxpayers". Despite being a pretty sarcastic gesture, the UNCC officials were said to be amused by it, and said he deserved a pat on the back for getting so involved in local government.

Clearly, the person in the office at the university was not this man.
