The 'In Memoriam' segment at awards ceremonies can often be a difficult watch, as viewers recall the actors and entertainers that have left us over the past year.

It was especially poignant at last night's Emmy Awards, however, as one of the names in the mix was the much-loved 'Friends' star Matthew Perry.

Musician Charlie Puth performed his song 'See You Again' as images of actors including Angela Lansbury, Lance Reddick, Alan Arkin, Leslie Jordan and Kirstie Alley appeared on screen.

However, Perry got a special nod as his image flashed up on screen and Puth and vocal duo The War and Treaty segued into The Rembrandts' 'I'll Be There for You', aka the 'Friends' theme tune.

The tender tribute caused quite a stir on social media, with many saying that they were unprepared for the emotional moment.
