It's already surrounded by teenagers most days of the week, but new plans for the Central Bank building in Temple Bar could see it becoming a secondary school.

Entries in the competition to find a new function for the Central Bank of Ireland once the current occupiers vacate the building for their new premises on North Wall Quay were wide and varied, from a shopping centre to a library, an eco-hotel and more, but the winning selection was one that would see the high-rise house classrooms on each floor and a library on the top.

The 'Open City School' was chosen over 58 other entries in the DocoMomo Ireland competition, for being 'very clever'. 'If we really want to get people living in the inner city, we need more schools.' the jury said, 'turning over one of the city’s largest and most centrally located buildings over to Irish youth is a radically empowering and optimistic gesture.. without eroding the structural integrity of Sam Stephenson’s original design.'

Even more kids in Temple Bar, doesn't seem like the most pleasant idea now does it?
