Have to say, the comments regarding IVF and Gay Marriage made by the designers via an interview with Italy's Panorama magazine are extreme.

The designers claim that, in their view, "The only family is the traditional one". OK, that's their opinion. Then they went on to say "No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed."

According to The Telegraph, Dolce added: "You are born to a mother and a father - or at least that's how it should be. I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalog."

Needless to say, Elton John was not going to take this lying down. Taking to Instagram yesterday, he said: "How dare you refer to my beautiful children as 'synthetic'. And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF - a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana."

In response, celebrities including Ricky Martin and Courtney Love are echoing John's sentiments via social media.

Although the celebrity backlash hasn't been as rife as one may expect, Gabbana issued this statement: "It was never our intention to judge other people's choices. We do believe in freedom and love." Just if it's traditional.
