Carol Vorderman is smart as we all know from her years on Countdown, but apparently she never learned the lesson in school of running with your hands in your pockets after she fell down a flight of stairs and broke her nose, requiring a trip to A&E and surgery. Ouch. She then obviously decided to share the story and image with the world.

Blaming the fall on the fact that she was a 'complete idiot', Vorderman had been at a meeting (hence the 4 -inch heels) when she decided to take the stairs rather than the lift. The stairway must have been chilly as she then stuck her hands in her pockets to keep warm just before faceplanting down the stairs. So don't expect to see her on the telly today, as she'll be the one at home seeing how terrible daytime TV really is for once.

'I feel OK but because I had my hands in my coat pockets while I was running, I had nothing to break my fall except my head. I look like I’ve done eight rounds with Muhammad Ali' she said, adding that 'The bruising round my eye has reached its peak. I also have stitches in my forehead and left eyelid. But I am just counting my blessings that I didn’t damage my skull or the eye itself. I feel like a complete idiot and have had to cancel work for a few weeks, so no Loose Women for a while. I’ll have a plaster cast on my nose for a week'. Lovely.

So this morning's lessons? If you're going to wear heels, always take the lift.
