The sixth Bulmers International Comedy Festival was officially launched this afternoon in the very stylish Wilde restaurant in the Westbury Hotel. Myself and Jenny Mulligan went along for a spot of yummy food and hoped for of a few laughs. I had my first ever encounter with a rib eye steak, and a little advice for those who are yet to experience it, well, stay well clear *wipes brow*. A personal highlight though was seeing George Hook huffing up the stairs to reception looking like he was climbing Mount Everest.
Moving swiftly on, at our table was a familiar face that was Kevin McAleer who introduced himself by saying "I'm a comedian" (shock, that), and a few reps from Bulmers. Speaking of Bulmers, there was plenty of free booze going around quenching the thirst. After the mound of meat that was lunch, we were presented with the line up for this year's festival and, I must admit, it looks like a cracker. Top comedians like the hilarious Jimmy Carr, Otis Lee Crenshaw, rising star Stephen Lynch, the man himself, Kevin McAleer (of course), Rich Hall and many more will be gracing a number of venues for three whole weeks in September. No doubt that Mr Carr's show on the 17th and18th September in the Olympia Theatre will sell out in no time.
There will be more acts announced in the upcoming months so keep both eyes on us here, and we'll let you know. Tickets will be going on sale tomorrow, Friday 26th, at 9am and the festival runs from the 6th-27th of September.
