Bruno Mars has opened up in an in depth interview with GQ magazine about his drug-related run in with the police back in 2010 and how it could have very nearly ended what was shaping up to be a stellar career. While his song 'Just the Way You Are' was rising through the charts, Mars was arrested in a bathroom in the Hard Rock casino in Las Vegas for being in possession of 2.6 grams of cocaine. He explained to the police that it was his first time dabbling in drugs. This wasn't true though. Why did he lie to the powers that be? 'Cause he was 'really intoxicated' and pretty much wet his pants in the police's presence, as most of us probably would.

From GQ's Chris Heath's interview:

"I was young, man! I was in f*cking Vegas. I wasn't thinking."

When asked what he thought when he was caught, Mars responded: "That was the thing - I wasn't thinking." And how did he feel, asked Heath? 'Oh yeah, just like any other human, anyone that's ever been arrested before: 'Yeah, dummy.' " Was he scared? "Oh yeah, of course. I was given a number one record and I'm out doing dumb shit."

But why the lie?

"I don't know where that came from. I was really intoxicated. I was really drunk. So a lot of that is a big blur, and I try every day to forget and keep pushing."

And, following a brief stint of community service which saw the shelving of the case, what has the whole experience taught him?

" 'I can take this shit away from you, young man.' That was the lesson. You've slaved away for years and years and years. You've prepped your whole life. It's all you know how to do. You're a kid experiencing life in fucking Sin City, and that was the lesson: It can all be taken away. Put you in a weird place. Embarrass you."
