Mel B decided to channel Grace Jones at last night's MOBOs despite the diva being there herself. That was brave. Not to be outdone, Jones was quick to fashion a face mask out of an giant waffle cone. She keeps them about her person at all times; she's whacky like that.
In other MOBO related happenings: the crowd booed their heads off when Leona Lewis failed to turn up to collect her awards. Sinitta was at hand to accept Lewis' award for Best Video (Bleeding Love, probably the American version) and was quick to remind everyone that she's somehow relevant, in the world of Simon Cowell: "I remember when Simon and I discovered her (um, was Sinitta on the judging panel with Simon, Louis and Sharon on the first and second audition rounds?) and she goes from strength to strength... You should be proud of her". Unsurprisingly, the crowd didn't listen (Simon Cowell is the ONLY person who listens... it must've been a really bad breakup if he still feels indebted to her). The ruction was such that Mel B had to bay: "Stop giving Leona Lewis a hard time you lot. It's not her fault she can't be here." Well, if Simon Cowell can't be arsed turning up…
That was the show's highlight, really, the booing. Estelle managed to keep her eyes open long enough to accept awards for Best Song (American Boy) and Best UK Female. Other than that, it was the usual random fest - like, why was Chico there? Or the gardener from Desperate Housewives for that matter? Was he hoping Nadine Coyle might turn up? And doesn't Mel B's sister look like the twins from Sister Sister? Is that Danielle Lloyd's bra? And WHAT in the name of Jehovah happened to Billy Ocean?!?
