Despite interest from locations like San Francisco and Los Angeles, Boston will officially be put forward as the location that the US hopes can secure the Olympic games.

The U.S. Olympic Committee has decided that Boston will be the city that they will nominate as host of the Olympic Games in 2024, beating competition from Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco, after a long meeting in Denver this week.

Boston has a strong sporting pedigree, as it's the home of the Red Sox, Bruins and is located close to the home of the New England Patriots, and it will be draped in Irish flags next week as the Irish contingent of the UFC look to come out victorious in front of a crowd that will be cheering on hometown boy Cathal Pendred and headliner Conor McGregor.

The city joins Rome as the only other official bidder for the Games in 2024, while Germany will also nominate a city (either Berlin or Hamburg) and France and Hungary both expected to also put forward a location. At least they've got the official anthem sorted, anyway.
