Hollywood couple Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes have downed the curtains on their marriage, which lasted nearly seven years. Wow. Divorce was imminent really. Life moves fast in movie land.

WENN reports: "Oscar winner Kate Winslet has split from her director husband Same Mendes after almost seven years of marriage. The Titanic actress wed American Beauty filmmaker Mendes in 2003 on the Caribbean island of Antigua. They have a son, Joe, who was born in December 2003, and Winslet also has a daughter, Mia Honey, from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton (she met him on the set of Hideous Kinky and married in him 1998. They split three years later). British beauty Winslet set up home with Mendes in New York City, but it was announced on Monday (15Mar10) that they have now parted ways. In a statement, a representative for the couple says, 'They are saddened to announce they separated earlier this year (other sources are claiming they went their seperate ways two years ago. That's what Revolutionary Road does to a couple). The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children'."

The usual. Honestly, why bother with the marriage anymore. It's an expensive endeavour which invariably ceases to exist past year five - if you're in the public eye. It's nice in theory but rarely works in practice and just continues to make a mockery of the whole "'til death to us part" scenario. It should be changed to "'til said relationship no longer serves a purpose to either party. Marriage's purposefulness to be reviewed every year until year two, every six months until year five, and every month thereafter. You may now roger the bride."
