Rue McClanahan,of the Golden Girls has passed away after suffering a stroke on Thursday last. The following comes from WENN:

"The actress's manager, Barbara Lawrence, confirmed the star died at a hospital in New York, surrounded by her family. She was 76. Lawrence tells People.com, 'She passed away at 1am this morning. She had a massive stroke.(McClanahan) had her family with her. She went in peace."

Rue began her career in 1950 on stage in New York and began workin on Broadway in 1969. Then in 1970, her TV career started and she never looked back. Her first job was in the US soap Another World, then she stared in Where the Heart Is and finally the sitcom Maude. Then, in 1985 she began playing Blanche Devereaux in the hit show that we all loved, The Golden Girls. In her personal life, she has battled a number of illnesses, breast cancer, a triple bypass and a minor stroke in January.
