Jolie says that Pitt was "physically and emotionally" abusive on a private plane dating back to 2016.

Angelina Jolie has filed court papers which accuse her ex-husband Brad Pitt of abusive behaviour towards her and their children.

According to the 'Eternals' and 'Maleficent' star, her then husband "grabbed her by the head and attacked two of their children" while on their private plane when they were travelling from France to Los Angeles in 2016. Jolie, Pitt and their six children (aged between 8 and 15 at the time) were all on board the flight.

Details in the filing read that Pitt "choked one of the children" and "struck another in the face".

According to her lawyers, Jolie says Pitt also began to shout abuse at her before pulling her into the backroom on the flight. The filing adds: "Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall."

One of the children attempted to defend Jolie, which resulted in further physical abuse. The complaint states: "Pitt lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him. To get Jolie off his back, Pitt threw himself backwards into the airplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow. The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other."

Once the flight landed, and Jolie told Pitt that she and children were staying at a hotel, he allegedly screamed at his wife and pushed her to the floor. The complaint continues: "He also grabbed and shook Jolie by the head and shoulders, causing one of the children to beg, 'Don’t hurt her'.

"He let Jolie go, but then called her a 'bitch', before adding, 'Fuck you, fuck you all'."

She also claims that Pitt poured beer and wine on them. Jolie says that the abusive and drunken behaviour is what prompted her to file for divorce five days later.

The incident was investigated by the FBI in 2016 but the authorities decided not to press charges. Jolie is seeking more information as to why this happened.

The 'Bullet Train' and 'Fight Club' star denies the incident occurred. A source told the BBC: "She continues to rehash, revise and reimagine her description of an event that happened six years ago by adding completely untrue information each time she fails to get what she wants. Her story is constantly evolving."

The Angelina Jolie claim against Brad Pitt is part of a lawsuit which is taking place between the two Hollywood A-listers over a French winery that they bought together in 2008. Chateau Miraval SA is located in the village of Correns in the south of France and the pair got married on the grounds in 2014.

Pitt claims that they had both agreed to not sell their shares without the permission of the other, but Jolie disputes this.

Both parents share joint custody of their children. In 2016, Pitt was cleared of an investigation over alleged child abuse and admitted to joining Alcoholics Anonymous after his split from Jolie.
