'Only in America' are the words the jump to mind when first coming across this story. An NFL rookie Jonathan Willard has shot to fame worldwide and been labelled a hero after he saved a family and their pet dog from a burning car.

On his way this Tuesday from South Carolina to the Titan's training camp in Nashville, Tennessee, the football player spotted a car billowing with black smoke ahead of him. After chasing the car and waving it down, he and another passerby helped evacuate the female driver, her kids and dog. The driver, in a dazed state, said she had not realised it was her car on fire. Minutes later, the empty car exploded.

Turns out this is not the first trime the NFL player has turned superhero, as he has previously made headlines for his heroic acts when he caught a fan who almost fell 15 feet from a railing at MetLife Stadium. Speaking to ABC News, the sportsman said he was acting on 'pure adrenaline', once calling himself 'a ninja'. Here's to hoping he sets up a helpline so his ninja reflexes are only a dial away, he sounds like the man to have around as emergency backup.
