AirAsia flight QZ8501 has gone missing on its flight from Surabaya to Singapore.

The Airbus320-200 lost contact with air traffic control at approximately 11.20PM last night, after it requested to deviate due to weather enroute.

According to officials, no distress signal was sent before the plane lost contact with Jakarta.

A total of 156 passengers, with seven crew members, are now missing.

Flight QZ8501 was between Indonesia and Borneo when the flight went down and had been cruising at 32,000 feet before it lost contact.

The search for the flight has been called for the night and is expected to resume first thing on Monday.

Flight QZ8501's disappearance comes as Malaysia Flight MH730 remains missing since March 8th without a trace.

AirAsia has said that its hopes are with the search-and-rescue teams and the Indonesian, Singapore and Malaysian governments.
