SKY News reports:

"The actress was led from court in handcuffs and remanded in custody until October 22nd. Last week she publicly acknowledged failing the drug test by posting a Twitter message. It was Lohan's first appearance before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox, who held an arrest warrant for her attendance... The actress sat in court quietly looking back over her shoulder to chat with her mother Dina while she waited for the hearing to commence.Her estranged father Michael sat in the back of the courtroom but didn't make eye contact with his daughter or ex-wife. The 24-year-old actress looked stunned when the judge remanded her in custody but did not comment after the announcement. A courtroom source told Sky News: "She looked shocked when she was asked to stand up. 'Her hands were cuffed behind her back and she shared a look of confusion with her mother as their eyes met briefly before she was taken out of the courtroom in cuffs.' Lohan was taken away by sheriff's deputies through a side door to avoid the waiting media throng.

Well, that was inevitable. Not as inevitable as this, however... Michael Lohan was of course eager to distance himself from his daughter's derailment, saying to awaiting press: "She hangs around the wrong people and around the wrong places."

TMZ don't really offer any other details, but they do have very tasteful "STARS IN COURT: JUDGE THEIR FASHION!" segment.

UPDATE: And now she's back in rehab. Yes, it is hard (and pretty much futile trying) to keep up: "People close to Lindsay and the family tell TMZ they were all shocked that Lindsay got tossed in jail on Friday - if only for a few hours. One close friend said Lindsay thought the judge was trying to make an example out of her - Lindsay called it 'completely unfair.' As for what's next... our Lohan sources say Lindsay knows she needs rehab and she needs a good 'foundation.' The word that keeps coming into Lindsay's circle is 'intense'  - that Lindsay needs to go away this time, and sooner rather than later. We're told Lindsay, Dina and her business manager, Lou Taylor, are all a part of the rehab discussion. One last thing ... as we first reported, Lindsay is going to have to wear the SCRAM bracelet again. As one LiLo pal put it, 'She hates that f**king thing'."
