Technology has enhanced our lives (at least until the point that we build robots so smart that they turn on us and kill us all, KILL US ALLLLL WE TELL YOU!!!) but we can also sometimes lose sight of the things that have changed as a result of all these new advances.

One thing that plenty of people are noticing is the tendency for people to whip out their phones when they're in a social group, and it can often slow down a conversation or make for an awkward moment as one person gets lost in their Twitter feed or Facebook comments.

However, one pub in Galway is hoping that they've found a way to get people to put the phone away and indulge in the lost art of conversation, as they're offering a free drink to any members of a group who are happy to put away their phone for the evening.

A bartender in Whiskey's in Loughrea stated on the pub's Facebook page that last week, a fairly quiet evening for the pub, they noticed a group of four women at the bar, and "3 out of the 4 girls were using their phones individually and [not] talking at all for a substantial period of time, up to 10-15mins". as the other girl sat patiently waiting for them to engage her in conversation again, as she didn't have her phone. They added that the group had totally "missed the point in going out to the bar to socialise and to interact with not alone with their friends, but also with the rest of the customers".

As a result, they're offering a free drink to anyone in your group who is happy to put their phones away in a locked box for a period of at least 30 minutes.

For the half hour period, no one in your group can have access to your phone, and if you're successful you'll get yourself a free drink, any time between the hours of 8pm and closing on Saturday night. We don't know about you, but we're hopping in car to head down to Loughrea as we speak.
