There are several titles that you could apply to Kim Jong-un: 'military leader', 'communist dictator', etc. - but 'girl group mastermind' is a new one.

You wouldn't necessarily peg the North Korean leader as the next Simon Cowell or Louis Walsh, but a girl group that he has put together - Morangbong Band - will play at a performing arts centre in Beijing over the next few nights.

The band - who are technically described as a 'military orchestra' - are the only all-female act in North Korea, and were formed in 2012 after its members were selected by the dictator.

They play various instruments including keyboards, electric guitars and violins in "short dresses and high heels", according to one report. The only difference in their show to any other pop band? They have performed in front of giant screens flashing images of Kim Jong-un and missile launches. Not the best way to generate an atmosphere, you could argue.

Their gigs in Beijing are apparently part of an effort to strengthen the relationship between North Korea and China, but the performances are not open to the public.  Awww.
