Jake Gyllenhaal battled the elements with "screen survival hero" Bear Grylls on Man VS Wild, which was shown stateside last night. The 30-year-old Brokeback Mountain hunk admitted that he had done 'nothing to prepare' for the gruelling trip through Iceland's most brutal and freezing terrains. During the show Gyllenhaal jumped from a helicopter and took his shirt off in sub-zero conditions, risking hypothermia.

Somewhat stating the obvious, Grylls said "It takes balls" after the pair had crossed the freezing river topless (for a very good reason apart from 'television'). "Well mine are right up in my throat right now," retorted Gyllenhaal. The actor also endured a blizzard and grew a wee bit scared while climbing a zip line at very high altitudes, what with his well documented height issues.

The Jarhead star, who also gutted a sheep with his bare hands and a rather sharp knife, said at the start of filming "I'm up for anything." Sure you were...

Hey, at least Bear didn't drag him off to the desert to guzzle water siphoned from a fresh elephant dung, or to spend the night inside a gutted camel/nearby motel...
