This is the type of post we'd squirrel away until New Years (you know those posts that crop up when we're too busy being merry to actually write anything), but there's been such a deluge of random celebrity unions that we may as well give a nod to the first half of 2014 lest we be snowed under with surprise couplings come December 31st.
Here are the top five so far, in no particular order (OK the weirdest one is at number 1).
5: Charlize Theron and Sean Penn
It's not beyond the realms of reality when given their profession etc... I just find it a bit difficult to believe anyone would find Mr Penn attractive enough to date. I also had a problem with him being married to Princess Buttercup, because - well - she's Princess Buttercup. She's nice. This is very superficial, but they looked wrong as a couple, as does himself and Charlize. In fact, the ONLY person the brain doesn't have a problem fitting him with is Madonna.
4: Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden
Keeping with couples who don't quite look right together, may we present Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden off Good Charlotte. Here they are disembarking a luxury yacht on July 26th. He does indeed look like one of her security detail. They have been dating for 5 months, and have now reportedly introduced each other to the parents. Well, they were eating food in the presence of "an older couple." Kind of a prerequesite when you're "considering marriage".
3: Chris Martin and Jennifer Lawrence
Apparently they've been dating since June. JUNE. I suppose we just find this one weird because we thought she was going to break up/get back together with Nicholas Hoult forever, and surely Gwynnie would never allow Chris date someone who's also won an Oscar - but we were wrong. As it turns out, she approves. According to a source: "Her take is, 'Hey, he could do worse.' She just wants him to be happy.' Sound.
2: George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin
It's not so much who she is (between their work as activists they were bound to bump into each other furiously at some point), more that she's managed to achieve what so very, very many women had failed to do in the past. What's even more amazing is the speed in which it happened. No wonder Stacey Kiebler got herself married and pregnant in a matter of minutes (helps if you have a willing friend) following George 'I'll date you for two years/until you start hounding me for a commitment' Clooney's engagement to Amal. The couple are due to get married imminently in his Lake Como retreat.
1: Zac Efron and Michelle Rodriguez
Yep, this is the strangest by a long shot. Michelle Rodriguez and Cara (I'll learn how to spell your surname someday) Delevingne we get. Michelle Rodriguez and Zac Efron not so much. In fact, we even get Justin Bieber and Michelle Rodriguez more than the latter scenario - even if they were only hanging out on a yacht together. The common link, of course, is Selena Gomez. So throw in random couplings between Justin Bieber, Orlando Bloom, Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne and you've got yourself one very interesting celebrity orgy (presumably on a yacht) in the making. Just saying. Vivid should be all over that!
