Father Daniel Barry has spent his fair share of time in his isolated Tipperary parish, so he's only delighted to be called back to Rome to continue his studies. However, he's rather disappointed when the Bishop delays his transfer indefinitely, and encourages him to help raise a bit of cash for the church. Movie enthusiast Daniel gets the idea to open a cinema with the proceeds going to the church fun, but uptight politician Stephen Rea can't stand the thought of 'filth' making its way to town, and demands its immediate closure.
