There's a new dystopian series dropping on Disney+ this autumn.
Dystopian series such as 'The Handmaid's Tale', 'The Walking Dead', 'Black Mirror' and many more have long been all the rage on our TV screens. And judging from our first look at 'Y: The Last Man', it has the potential to be yet another sure-fire hit. Why? Because women will rule the world *snaps fingers*.
Based on the sci-fi comic book series of the same name by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, the premise will see our world shaken by one of the strangest happenings of all time. What starts off as a regular day quickly falls into peril, as all of the people in the world with a Y chromosome die - essentially wiping out all men on Earth. All men that is, except for one cisgender man (Ben Schnetzer will play said man, Yorick Brown), and his pet monkey.
With only one man left standing in the world, the remaining survivors must begin to restore the planet that was lost, build something better, and find out what caused this total wipe-out.
The ensemble cast stars Diane Lane ('House of Cards') as Congresswoman Jennifer Brown; Ashley Romans ('Shameless') as Agent 355; Olivia Thirlby ('Juno') as Hero Brown; Amber Tamblyn ('The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants') as Kimberly Campbell Cunningham; Marin Ireland ('The Umbrella Academy') as Nora Brady; Diana Bang ('Resident Alien') as Dr. Allison Mann; Elliot Fletcher ('Shameless') as Sam Jordan; and Juliana Canfield ('Succession') as Beth Deville.
You might remember that Irish actor Barry Keoghan was originally cast in the role of Yorick Brown when the series was initially announced in 2019. Ben Schnetzer from 'The Book Thief' and 'Pride' was drafted in as his replacement. Keoghan will next appear in Marvel's 'Eternals' at the end of the year.
Here's the trailer for 'Y: The Last Man'.
The first three episodes of 'Y: The Last Man' will premiere via Star on Disney+ on September 22.
