Don Cheadle revealed his involvement with the Disney+ series, as well as opening up about headlining 'Armor Wars'.
Although his role will likely be small, War Machine AKA Rhodey, is confirmed as blasting onto Disney+'s next MCU series. 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' is due to arrive on the streaming platform on March 19, two weeks after the 'WandaVision' finale on March 5.
Although Marvel cross-overs are more than likely to happen throughout each of these planned TV series, we finally have details of one that is 100% certain to happen.
Speaking with the Post-Credit Podcast, Don Cheadle told the hosts about how fun it is to play War Machine, and how he'll appear in the upcoming series: "That’s some of the fun of the MCU, that we all get to show up in each other’s stories, and there are ways that we’re cross-platforming these characters, and they become storylines, sometimes, in the movies. And then these storylines in the movies become storylines in the shows.
"It’s really a fun and interesting and, by all imagination, completely open-ended — this can go anywhere. It’s great, I can’t wait to get in the room with the writers and figure out how all those things happen. You know, Rhodey shows up in Winter Soldier and Falcon’s show. So, it can be a lot."
Just how big a role War Machine will play in 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' remains to be seen, but given that the character has his own series to head up in the future, we're betting it will be brief.
'Amor Wars' is currently in its later stages of development at Marvel Studios, with filming expected to begin in a couple of months time. Announced as part of the mega Disney Press Conference back in December, the Disney+ series will focus on the aftermath of Iron Man's death.
Rhodey was a close friend to Tony Stark, and in the comics, Iron Man was the main character of the series.
Cheadle also opened up about what direction he imagines 'Armor Wars' will go in: "The death of Tony Stark, I’m pretty sure, will play a role in the series.
"Where we’ve been sort of progressing Rhodey—even in the last film where he’s now up again and he’s now walking again and he’s now mobile again—so as the technology continues to develop and we keep making innovations in the suit and what happens, I imagine there’s gonna be another elevation and another way that we’re going to keep digging into that part of Rhodey.
"But really, figuring out a way to bridge what’s happening in the comic books with what’s happening on screen in the MCU and how we’re going to make those worlds work, that’s really exciting."
Expect 'Armor Wars' to arrive on Disney+ in late 2022.
