Lin-Manuel Miranda's directorial debut will be heading to Netflix and select theatres later this year.

Our first look at the new Netflix musical 'tick, tick...BOOM!' is here - and we're pretty excited about this production.

Directed by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda ('Hamilton'), he'll make his feature directorial debut with 'tick, tick…BOOM!'. The movie serves as an adaptation of the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the creator of the highly-acclaimed 'Rent'.

The movie is set in 1990 and follows Andrew Garfield ('The Amazing Spider-Man') as Jon, a young theatre composer who’s waiting tables at a New York City diner. He aspires to write the next great American musical, however, he is up against the clock in order to do so. He faces the question everyone must reckon with: What are we meant to do with the time we have?

Joining Tony Award winner Garfield will be an all-star cast, including Vanessa Hudgens ('High School Musical'), Alexandra Shipp ('X-Men: Apocalypse'), Tony Award nominee Robin de Jesús ('The Boys in the Band'), Tony Award nominee Joshua Henry ('Hamilton'), MJ Rodriguez ('Pose'), Emmy Award winner Bradley Whitford ('The West Wing'), Tariq Trotter (better known as US rapper Black Thought), and finally Emmy and Tony Award winner Judith Light ('Transparent').

Here's the first teaser trailer for 'tick, tick... BOOM!' which will be in select cinemas this autumn, followed by a release on Netflix.

There are a number of musicals for fans of the genre to look forward to this year. 'In The Heights' (also starring Lin-Manuel Miranda) will be released in cinemas this coming weekend; 'Everyone's Talking About Jamie' hits Amazon Prime this September; while Steven Spielberg's remake of the classic 'West Side Story' arrives in theatres this December.
