The year of Florence is in full swing

When not "Cooking with Flo", she was shooting a new thriller in the Irish midlands last year.

Florence Pugh stars in the trailer for 'The Wonder', an adaptation of the book of the same title by Emma Donoghue.

Hitting Netflix next month, the film will see Pugh star as an English nurse who travels to the Irish countryside in order to see to a strange ailment that has befallen a young girl. Anna (played by Kíla Lord Cassidy) hasn't eaten for four months, which has flabberghasted her family and local residents. A period thriller set in 1862, what haunting secrets will this travelling nurse uncover as she gets to the bottom of this "miraculous" occurrence?

Donoghue is known for her compelling book 'Room', which became an Oscar-winning film starring Brie Larson. 'The Wonder' sees Chilean director Sebastián Lelio ('Gloria Bell', 'Disobedience') take the helm of the project. Ciarán Hinds, Niamh Algar, Toby Jones, Tom Burke and Elaine Cassidy are also part of the cast.

Pugh was in Ireland filming the thriller in August and September of last year and even managed to do a "Cooking with Flo" segment where she spoke about her positive experience while staying here: "I can’t tell you how gorgeous everyone is, every single person I interact with is lovely and so helpful. Everyone is so kind and ready to just have a good time with you. So, thank you Ireland for being so generous and welcoming."

The official synopsis for 'The Wonder' is as follows:

1862, 13 years after the Great Famine. An English Nightingale Nurse Lib Wright (Florence Pugh) is called to the Irish Midlands by a devout community to conduct a 15-day examination over one of their own. Anna O’Donnell (Kíla Lord Cassidy) is an 11-year-old girl who claims not to have eaten for four months, surviving miraculously on “manna from heaven”. As Anna's health rapidly deteriorates, Lib is determined to unearth the truth, challenging the faith of a community that would prefer to stay believing.
