One thing that marked out 'Rogue One' over the other spin-offs in the 'Star Wars' franchise was A) how dark and realistic it was, and B) what a good cast it had.
Ben Mendelsohn as the villain, an assassin droid voiced by Alan Tudyk, Forrest Whittaker, Mads Mikkelsen, not to mention a cameo here and there by Jimmy Smits and that very weird CGI thing they did with Governor Tarkin.
Casting for the Disney+ series based on Diego Luna's character, Cassian Andor, looks to be getting underway with 'Chernobyl' star Stellan Skarsgard and 'Poldark' alum Kyle Soller set to join the cast in unspecified roles, per Variety.
Skarsgard, of course, is no stranger to sci-fi, and is due to star in Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of 'Dune', while Soller previously starred in a voice role for 'Alien: Isolation'. As mentioned, it's not clear what role either actor will be playing, but you just know it's probably going to be two baddies.
Since the success of 'The Mandalorian', Disney has ramped up productions on their TV series, with a second season of 'The Mandalorian' in production with Rosario Dawson close to signing up to play a major role, while Ewan McGregor's 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' series is currently being written.
No air date has been set for the as-yet untitled 'Rogue One' series, however, estimates put it at it somewhere between late 2021 and early 2022.
