Spooky season is nearly upon us.
We know, we know - it's only September. But judging by all of the various merchandise already in stores across the country, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Halloween was just around the corner.
Netflix has already jumped on the bandwagon too and started to release titles to get us all geared up for the spooky season that lies ahead over the next few weeks. From today, you can watch their first horror movie of the autumn season in 'The Babysitter: Killer Queen', and there will be even more coming our way very soon. Here are some of the best scary titles that we'll be watching (and using pillows to hide behind) in no time.
What: 'The Babysitter: Killer Queen'
When: Right now
Why: In case you missed the first entry in the series, 'The Babysitter' was a mildly popular teen thriller/comedy from 2017 which saw young protagonist Cole attempt to not be killed by his babysitter (played by Samara Weaving) and her freakish friends. This time around, you can probably expect fairly similar happenings to take place, with more gore, more jokes, and more silly happenings.
What: 'Ratched'
When: September 18
Why: Sarah Paulson plays the role of Nurse Mildred Ratched, the one-dimensional character we've all seen or read about in 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' - and this is Ryan Murphy's deliciously dark take on her previously untold origin story. Hype for this series has been fairly high, but will it live up to everyone's expectations? Here's hoping.
What: 'Hubie Halloween'
When: October 7
Why: It's Adam Sandler as you've never seen him before! Nope, just kidding, it's Sandler in a role you've seen him play many, many times. Another comedy/thriller in Netflix's arsenal this autumn is 'Hubie Halloween' which on the surface seems like a dud, but may actually be fairly decent. The supporting cast of Maya Rudolf, Rob Schneider, Steve Buscemi, Julie Bowen, and Kevin James make this movie one of the better spooky titles on Netflix to watch very soon.
What: 'The Haunting of Bly Manor'
When: October 9
Why: The time is nearly upon us. After a stunning first series with 'The Haunting of Hill House', Mike Flanagan is once again gifting us with a follow-up to his creepy anthology series, this time inspired by the supernatural stories of author Henry James. Set to be yet another of the best spooky titles on Netflix, this second time around we join a family in 1980s England who are experiencing more than just a couple of bumps in the night.
What: 'Unsolved Mysteries: Volume 2'
When: October 19
Why: It would really be easier if we just listed all the reasons why not to tune in - and that's because there aren't any. The first six entries in the rebooted 'Unsolved Mysteries' series had us hooked with real-life stories that have remained unsolved for all these years. With six more episodes (and one regarding ghosts) on the way, we are gasping for our next fix.
What: 'Rebecca'
When: October 21
Why: A fresh adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's gothic horror novel, which Alfred Hitchcock also managed to turn into a movie in 1940, will see Armie Hammer and Lily James play a newly married couple who move into the de Winter family estate and grounds. Not everything is as it seems of course, and what was at one time a happy marriage gradually turns into a psychological nightmare. This is a definite one to watch out for this October.
