Sarah Paulson and Ryan Murphy now seem to have formed the kind of partnership that'll seem them working together for years to come.

She previously starred in American Horror Story and American Crime Story, and will now star in a new Netflix series based on the origins of Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Per Deadline, Ratched has been ordered to Netflix for two seasons with eighteen episodes with Paulson in the lead role, and none other than Michael Douglas acting as co-executive producer with Murphy.

Douglas acted as executive producer on the original 1975 movie, which swept the boards at the Oscars that year and scored gongs for Jack Nicholson as McMurphy, Louise Flecther as Nurse Ratched, Milos Forman for directing and Michael Douglas and Saul Zaentz as producers.

The series will begin in 1947 and follow Paulson as Ratched as she progresses "from nurse to full-blown monster", with the series capturing her journey through the mental health system. Origin stories of famous movie characters are now big business, considering Psycho's Norman Bates was successfully turned into Bates Motel, and there's now talk of The Joker getting his own origins story (which is a terrible idea for that character).

No release date has been confirmed for Ratched, however it's understood that production is due to begin in mid-2018.
