Ahead of the double-season premiere on Disney+ this Friday, the returning Jedi Master has laid the groundwork for plenty of fan speculation to kick into hyperdrive.
We haven't even seen an episode of 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' yet and there's already talk of a second season. What sort of evil temptation is this?
Ewan McGregor recently chatted with Entertainment Weekly about the possibility of returning to the titular character again, and this is exactly what he had to say on the matter: "It was made as a one-off limited series. And in a way, it does do what I wanted it to do in terms of bridging a story between 'III' and 'IV' and bringing me closer to Alec Guinness' Obi-Wan in 'A New Hope'. And so, for sure, that's true."
"Would I like to make another one?" the actor ponders. "Yeah, I would like to make another one."
But why is that? According to the star, he had a lot of fun making this TV sequel to 'Revenge of the Sith'. He elaborated: "I had such a great time working with Deb [director Deborah Chow], and the actors that we had in this were so great to work with, and the crew are just... I can't tell you.
"It was so wonderful to work on. I couldn't wait to get to work every day, and on a long shoot like this, that's something. Right to the end, I just loved the experience of it."
'Obi-Wan Kenobi' begins on Disney+ this Friday, May 27, with a double-episode helping. Set 10 years after the events catastrophic events of 'Episode III', the six-part series will see Hayden Christensen return as the infamous Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, who has been kept in the dark about the whereabouts of his son, Luke. Obi-Wan has been quietly keeping an eye on the young boy, but there are also high-ranking troops from the Galactic Empire who are set on seeking out this future Jedi Master.
McGregor said of the pressure of making this Disney+ series a worthwhile trip back in time for 'Star Wars' fans: "It sounds a bit pretentious, but it's nice to make people happy. It's nice to know that by all of our efforts in making this 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' series, the fans are going to be stoked. I think they're not going to be disappointed by it. Maybe some will, but you can't please all the people all the time. But knowing that people are going to be happy because of our work is a nice feeling."
So, if you've been able to read between the lines, it seems that Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan survives the six-episode season. With the miniseries expected to be a success, and with the main star seemingly on board, don't be surprised if we get word of more Jedi action with a 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' second season in the future.
