Following rumours of the series being in development in 2020, Disney+ has officially given the musical the go-ahead.

Josh Gad and Luke Evans will be reprising their roles as Gaston and LeFou in the 'Beauty and the Beast' prequel series for Disney+.

The leading actors will be joined in the live-action musical series by Briana Middleton, who will be playing the role of LeFou's stepsister, Tilly. Middleton is relatively unknown, but will be starring in George Clooney's next directorial effort 'The Tender Bar', starring Ben Affleck and Christopher Lloyd.

Gad, who is also known for voicing Olaf in the 'Frozen' franchise, will executive produce the series, as well as write and co-showrun alongside Edward Katsis ('Lost') and Adam Horowitz ('Beastie Boys Story'). The soundtrack will be composed by Alan Menken (many Disney classics including 'Aladdin' and 'Hercules').

2021 marks the original 'Beauty and the Beast' 30th anniversary release in theatres, so it seems like a fitting time to announce a new entry to the Disney classic. However, production on this prequel is not due to start until spring 2022.

Here's what the synopsis for the series will be: "Set in the iconic kingdom of 'Beauty and the Beast' years before the Beast and Belle's epic romance, the series will follow Gaston and LeFou as they set off with LeFou's step-sister, Tilly, after a surprising revelation from her past comes to light, sending the unlikely trio off on an unexpected journey filled with romance, comedy, and adventure. While the mysteries of the past are uncovered and the dangers of the present grow, old friends and new enemies reveal that this familiar kingdom harbours many secrets."

A brand new cast of characters are expected to be introduced on their journey - but will we see a guest appearance from Emma Watson's Belle or Dan Steven's Beast?

Until then, here's Josh Gad and Luke Evans singing 'Gaston' in the live-action movie... "No one hits like Gaston, matches wits like Gaston".
