The full cast of the Netflix series based on the DC comics by Neil Gaiman has been announced.

Stephen Fry, David Thewlis, Niamh Walsh, Patton Oswalt and many more are part of 'The Sandman' cast for Netflix.

The upcoming series is based on Neil Gaiman's DC Comics series and is expected to be the streamers next big superhero caper.

Also included in the line-up is Jenna Coleman from 'Doctor Who' fame; Sandra James Young from 'Eastenders'; Joely Richardson from 'Nip/Tuck'; Kirby Howell-Baptiste from Disney's 'Cruella'; as well as Mason Alexander Park, Kyo Ra, and Razane Jammal.

Niamh Walsh will be familiar to Irish viewers of 'Smother' on RTÉ from earlier this year. On the series she played the role of pregnant daughter Jenny, and in 'The Sandman' she will play young Ethel Cripps. Niamh previously appeared in Neil Gaiman's other fantasy series 'Good Omens' on Amazon Prime.

The cast will join the previously-announced 'Game of Thrones' alums Charles Dance and Gwendolyn Christie. The pair were announced as part of the cast back in January, as well as Tom Sturridge, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, and Asim Chaudhry and Sanjeev Bhaskar.

Neil Gaiman writes of the upcoming Netflix series: "Every afternoon I get an email telling me that there are “dailies” from 'The Sandman' ready to be watched. It's the best bit of the day. Once every couple of weeks I get an email letting me know that there's a finished episode waiting for me to watch it. It's the best bit of the month.

"'The Sandman' is being made, and it's... well, it's 'The Sandman'. Which is the best thing of all. You know that 'The Sandman' is based on my comic book series of the same name. A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven, 'The Sandman' follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he's made during his vast existence.

"Of course, there are more delights and nightmares cast than I've listed here, and we have a few more secrets up our sleeves. I can't wait until you can start watching."

Filming is currently ongoing for the series.
