When you think of a Guest Actor award nomination, you think that they would stick around for at least one episode in a series to receive such an accolade. However, that hasn't been the case for the latest round of Emmy Award nominations.
Don Cheadle has been left dumbfounded after his Emmy Award nomination, following his appearance in Disney+'s 'Falcon and the Winter Soldier' series. The reason why he's been left so perplexed is that he was only on the screen for less than two minutes.
The 73rd Primetime Emmy Award nominations were revealed yesterday evening, with Disney+, HBO, and Netflix leading the charge - 'The Mandalorian' and 'The Crown' are at the top of the pile with 24 apiece.
Disney's first two MCU series, 'WandaVision' and 'Falcon and the Winter Soldier', fared extremely well, with the former receiving 23 nominations and the latter bagging five. Unfortunately, because the final episode of 'Loki' only airs today, the series will have to wait until next year to see if it claims any nods. It's the first time in Emmy history that the top three shows with nominations were from streaming platforms (and two from Disney+).
Anyway, back to Don Cheadle. The Emmy gods have deemed his very brief appearance in the action drama as award-worthy. The actor, who plays War Machine/Rhodey, tweeted his surprise by saying: "thanks, well wishers. sorry, haters. agreed, [shrug emoji] ers. i don't really get it either. buuuuuuuuuut on we go ..."
The Guest Actor Award category sees Don Cheadle up against Charles Dance from 'The Crown', Timothy Olyphant from 'The Mandalorian', Courtney B. Vance in 'Lovecraft Country', and Carl Weathers also from 'The Mandalorian'. Neither Anthony Mackie nor Sebastian Stan received nominations for their performances in the MCU series.
'WandaVision', on the other hand, cleaned up on nominations. The series received 23 nods, including Outstanding Limited Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress for Kathryn Hahn, and both Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany for Outstanding Actress and Actor in a Limited Series. Of course, 'Agatha All Along' also nabbed a nomination for Outstanding Music and Lyrics.
The MCU series' 28 nominations contributes to the 71 accolades Disney+ received overall. The award show will take place on Sunday, September 19, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer.
