The series based on Isaac Asimov's award-winning novels is expected to arrive on our screens towards the end of the year. 'Foundation' has been pencilled in for an autumn release on Apple TV+.
Writer David S. Goyer and executive producer Michael Malone gave new information to LovinMalta. As well as Limerick, Malta was another filming location used for the show, due to it having large water tanks.
According to the publication, the series will consist of 10 episodes initially, with "Autumn 2021" set as the premiere date for season one. However, given the vast amount of source material available, plans for the series could see up to 80 episodes be created. Should there be enough audience uptake, the series could run for eight seasons.
'Foundation' was partially filmed in Troy Studios in Limerick and reportedly cost upwards of €45 million, earning its place as the largest-ever production to shoot on our island. Production was halted at the beginning of last year, but picked up once again in October.
The show will follow a "band of exiles who discover that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it". The storyline sprawls a timeline of over 1,000 years.
This will be the first on-screen sci-fi production of Asimov's books. Stars involved include Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Terrence Mann, and Cassian Bilton.
Harris will play the central role of Hari Sheldon, a mathematics professor who develops an algorithm which allows him to predict the future.
