An Apple TV show has halted their filming in Castletroy, Limerick due to precautions surrounding the coronavirus in Ireland.
Yesterday, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar addressed the nation that all schools, colleges and gatherings of more than 100 people indoors and 500 outdoors are to be postponed until March 29. The effect has meant that many planned events and venues will be shutting their doors until a later date. And now, an Apple TV show in Limerick has also put a hold on their filming schedule.
According to Deadline, the filming of 'Foundation' in Castletroy, Limerick has been put to a stop due to yesterday's announcement. The TV series is set to be an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s sci-fi series of the same name.
The son of Irish actor Richard Harris, Jared, is playing the lead role. Jared Harris will be a familiar face to anyone who has seen 'Chernobyl' or 'The Crown' , where he played King George VI. Joining Harris in the series is Lee Pace, better known for playing Thranduil in 'The Hobbit' prequel movies.
In a statement released by production, the team said: "Skydance, along with Apple, have made the decision to temporarily suspend filming on 'Foundation'. The health and safety of our cast and crew is our top priority and we are closely monitoring the situation."
The 10-episode Apple TV show in Limerick will chronicle the epic saga of Asimov's 'Foundation' series of novels, focussing on a band of exiles who discover that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it.
Due to COVID-19, many TV shows and movies have either halted production or moved release dates due to public safety. Disney is the latest production company to postpone cinema releases.
