The 'BBC Sound of' poll is an annual round-up of the hottest emerging acts on the music scene.

Previous winners of the title include Ellie Goulding, Adele, Michael Kiwanuka and Sam Smith.

Now, the winner of this year's poll has been revealed as British-Jamaican soul singer Celeste - who will also be award the 'Rising Star' award at the BRITs next month.

"I’m really, really happy," she said. It’s like all of the work that went in throughout the year wasn’t invisible. I can’t wait now to see what the rest of the year will look like.

"I’m so thrilled and so excited. I can’t wait. I could never have predicted half of the things that happened…I’m so grateful for every opportunity I’ve had so far and am looking forward to what 2020 will bring."

Celeste released a compilation album in December, but has yet to release a studio album.

She beat off competition from English band Easy Life, who were runners-up, while young alt-rock musician Yungblud came third.

The only Irish act on the shortlist this year was Dublin band Inhaler, who came 5th in the poll.
